Sea Fort of the Marathas
You’re looking at an aerial view of the Sindhudurg fort, just off the Maharashtra coast on a small island called ‘Khurte’ in the Arabian sea. Built by the order of Chhatrapati Shivaji in 1664, this massive 48-acre fort was built under the supervision of Hiroji Indulkar. It has walls 30 feet high and 12 feet thick, to protect the fort from enemies and from the mighty waves of the Arabian sea. Today the fort lies in an almost abandoned state and entry is closed during the monsoons.
