Time for a nap?

The day after the clocks go forward, many of us will be able to sympathise with this well-concealed screech owl, napping in a tree trunk on Long Island in New York. These furry fellows can be found across wilderness areas and near human settlements in the US and, as they are nocturnal, will sleep during the day and become active after dusk. While it’s not obvious from this picture, screech owls are tiny - smaller than a pint glass - and feast on insects, worms and small rodents.
