Still waters run (very) deep

We're looking out onto the deepest lake in the USA. Crater Lake, in the state of Oregon, reaches depths of up to 1,943ft (592m) - nearly twice the height of the Eiffel Tower. Fed mainly by snowfall, this pristine, crystal blue lake arrived with a bang. At some point around 5700 BCE the volcano Mount Mazama erupted, losing roughly 3,000ft (914m) of its height. The volcano blew out so much molten rock that it left a giant depression that gradually filled with water, creating this serene scene.
