Frozen fruits of the forest

This plump little chap is a pine grosbeak - the largest member of the true finch family, which makes its nest in forests and feeds on berries and fruits. It is an extremely rare event to spot one in the UK but they are more common in parts of Canada and the United States, Siberia and Scandinavia. You can identify it by its short musical warble. While the pine grosbeak mostly stays in the northern latitudes, it's an irruptive species, meaning it migrates some winters further south to find food. It's quite tame and unafraid of people, so it can be easy to overlook because it'll often sit still as a bird watcher walks by.
