Holiday hues
In Mexico poinsettias are called ‘La Flor de la Nochebuena’ or Flower of the Holy Night, and they are traditionally displayed on December 12 in celebration of Our Lady of Guadalupe Day. The Aztecs used the leaves from this plant to make dye and the sap to treat fevers. There are more than 100 types of poinsettias, ranging from red to pink, white, yellow, and purple. You can even find multicoloured plants to shake things up. We still love the classic red. Poinsettias are the top-selling potted plant in Canada and the U.S., brightening holiday tables every December.
