Grizzly bear and cub

The mighty grizzly is a subspecies of the brown bear but unlike the latter, the grizzly bear differs in diet and can be found predominantly inland in forests or alpine meadows. Scientifically known as ursus arctos horribilis, the grizzly bear is renowned for its massive size and can weigh upwards of 350 kilograms. As apex predators, they sit at the top of the food chain and hunt for large animals like moose and elk. This time of the year, the grizzly actively puts on weight before retiring into their dens for months-long hibernation.
