Once only known for being the site where one of the most ambitious military attacks in history of the Second World War, the Battle of Normandy, was set in motion on June 6, 1944, today's Normandy in France is a far cry from the trenches and minefields of war. The region is a beautiful destination, drawing travellers from around the world looking to sample fragrant camembert cheese while feasting their eyes on the lush landscapes that inspired the great Impressionist painters.
